Behind Sidonie Panache, there is Aurore, passionate about artisanal woodworking.

Aurore's hands have always spoken their own language, a playful exploration of keen curiosity and a nascent alphabet before becoming a language in its own right.

It was with Victor, her grandfather, that her hands began to express themselves. It was in his Alibaba cave-like workshop that he revealed to her the creative jack-of-all-trades that she is; he reinvented new lives for different objects or scraps of material, upcycling before its time.

It was in this series of reinventions and explorations that wood became a privileged medium, the day when his hands, helped by those of his grandfather, made a small treasure box emerge from a piece of lemon wood.

Aurore was 8 years old, her passion for wood had just been born and has never left her since.

After studying art in Brussels (secondary at Saint-Luc first, then Photography at La Cambre) and an intense trip to Iceland, she felt the need to return to the essential: working with her hands.

During various trips previously, she had discovered more about artisanal woodworking (notably in Mali and Nepal) and this gave her the desire to train in cabinetmaking.

After learning the different techniques of cabinetmaking or even furniture restoration, the magic of sculpting solid wood objects opens up to her: making an object from a board, playing with the wood grain or the technical detail of sublimating cracks fascinates her.

Having become a mother, she became interested in everyday objects, useful and 100% natural, and tried new techniques, which she taught herself, including woodturning. She particularly enjoys making spoons hollowed out of different types of trees.

After 2 years of intensive filming practice, she decided to go freelance. Sidonie Panache was born

Today, it is in her workshop and with her grandfather's tools that she shapes her current creations, always with locally sourced wood.

Panache is the name of the ice cream parlor by the sea where she used to go with her grandfather to eat ice cream and waffles, hiding from her grandmother.

And Sidonie Panache, that's what her grandparents liked to call her, no doubt in reference to a character in a 1930s film.

Sidonie Panache, twists and turns of emotions, stories and wood.

Aurore lives and works in Belgium.
